Dagger is the fifth album from the English post-punk band Ist Ist. I am listening to the numbered white-label promo, purchased from their online store (https://www.ististmusic.com/collections/dagger), which came with a signed photo.

Below is a very brief review.
The first track, “I Am The Fear“, launches into a bouncy yet heavy synth and drum-laden track. Adam Houghton’s vocals are dark, and the similarities with Joy Division’s Ian Curtis are very apparent. It’s a strong opener, setting the stage for a great album.
“Makes no Difference” is a bit darker and somber.
“Warning Signs” returns to a more synth-driven approach, very bouncy. It reminds me very much of Moby & The Void Pacific Choir’s Fast Songs from the Apocalypse songs.
“Burning” starts with strong vocals, with the instruments increasing and falling as the singing takes center-stage.
“The Echo” is probably my favorite track on side A, a great track, classic Ist Ist!
Side B starts with “Encouragement” a slow-starting song, with the bass line leading into a very Editors-style song.
“I Remember Everything” has strong vibes with an 80’s feel to it.
“Obligations” has a nice guitar riff.
“Song For Someone” feels like a lullaby sung to a dear departed loved one.
The album ends with “Ambition“, an excellent finisher.
Overall, it’s a really good album. If dark and moody Post-Punk is your thing, then go and grab this! It’s typical Ist Ist, it sticks with their signature sound, so there are no real surprises, but that’s not a bad thing really. The new songs are bound to be gig-favorites (such as “I am the Fear” and “Warning Signs“).
